Philanthropic Specialist Major Gifts       

 

Position Objectives:

  • To develop and implement successful fundraising strategies for soliciting individual PETA donors for both major and legacy gifts. 

  • To provide exceptional supporter care to PETA’s donors and supporters

  • To oversee responses to member phone calls, e-mails and letter correspondence

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Build and establish an engaged portfolio of high-net-worth PETA donors 

  • With assistance from prospect research, qualify assigned prospects and donors in their capacity, inclination, affinity, and readiness to give

  • Identify and research appropriate "cases for giving" for targeted PETA donors

  • Cultivate and steward long-term relationships with targeted and prospective PETA donors 

  • Solicit major financial donations and legacy giving plans to PETA from targeted donors 

  • Implement a communications plan with assigned donors providing them with proposals, reports, and updates, as required

  • Secure in-person visits with assigned donors, as required

  • Work with key PETA staff to bring donors deeper into the folds of PETA’s work

  • Document pertinent information (meetings, correspondence, notes, research) for the purpose of enhancing and developing PETA donor profiles for PETA's major gifts database

  • Ensure that PETA’s supporters are provided with exceptional levels of care

  • Process credit card, cheque and other donations as needed

  • Stay up-to-date on current fundraising techniques and methods used in the nonprofit sector and attend professional-training seminars in both major and legacy gifts

  • Perform any other duties requested by the supervisor

 

Requirements

  • Significant experience with nonprofit major gifts fundraising 

  • Introductory knowledge of legacy giving and basic planned giving options

  • Exceptional persuasive and explanatory written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability to maintain professional working relationships with members and supporters

  • Proven excellent project management, strategic thinking, and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain strict confidentiality at all times

  • Willingness and ability to travel

  • Ability to represent PETA's philosophy and professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues including veganism

  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation
